SaskTel investing $321 million in capital

Download speeds in Saskatchewan are about to get faster.

SaskTel has announced an investment of approximately $321 million of capital in 2019-2020.

This investment is part of SaskTel’s ongoing efforts to enhance and expand wireless, television, internet, data, and IP-based technologies across the province.

“SaskTel’s continued investment in its networks and systems, both externally and internally, will enable us to deliver world class communication technologies to our customers across the province,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel president and CEO in a press release.

“Over the years, SaskTel has proactively invested in new and innovative technologies that have allowed the company to remain successful in an increasingly competitive industry.”

This investment is broken down as follows:

  • $75 million for SaskTel’s fibre program, with $45.8 million for the Fibre to the Premises Program (FTTP) in major cities, $19.2 million for the FTTP outside of these areas, and $10 million for Fibre to the Business (FTTB)
  • $36 million for wireless network enhancements, including $29 million for LTE improvements, $2 million for SaskTel Select Wi-Fi expansion, and $5 million for wireless network demand and growth
  • $39.1 million for rural wireless and internet enhancements
  • $94.4 million related to wireline network growth
  • $76.4 million to improve customer services through Information Technology and Information Systems platforms and service enhancements.
