SaskTel is expecting a record number of customers using SaskTel services to reach out to their long-distance friends and family this Christmas.

From Dec. 24-26, Sasktel is predicting a nine per cent increase in traditional phone calls, with a predicted 1.8 million calls made and 1.3 million calls received. They are also expecting over 24.4 million text messages to be sent and received, on top of the 415.2 terabytes of data used.

Phone calls seem to be on the rise, said the Crown company, especially on Christmas Day.

The increased traffic is sure to make for a busy holiday, and SaskTel offered a few tips to make sure those phone calls to loved ones are successful.

The peak busy times are likely to be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., so avoiding making a call at those times is likely a good idea. SaskTel also recommends making sure to charge your cellphone before use and take advantage of Wi-Fi to save data on video calls.

“As you reach out these holidays, I’d like to offer our thanks to the people of Saskatchewan for making us their number one choice for staying connected,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel President and CEO. “On behalf of everyone here at SaskTel, we’d like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season!”
