Mother’s Day is always a busy day on SaskTel’s network, but the company expects numbers to be even higher this year due to social distancing.
SaskTel’s usage numbers have spiked across all lines of service since mid-March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of April 27th, 2020, SaskTel says traffic on the DSL and fibre optic networks has increased by 16 per cent, wireless data traffic is up 34 per cent, and Fusion data usage has increased by 46 per cent.
“Mother’s Day has historically been one of busiest days of the year for SaskTel, with over four million text messages sent and over five million text messages received last year, and we expect to see new records set this year,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel president and CEO.
SaskTel has provided some tips to help you visit with your loved ones this weekend. This includes:
- for video calls, be sure to sit in a spot where you can be clearly seen and where there is minimal background noise;
- ensure you are in a comfortable position with your camera at eye level;
- video calling uses more data, so be sure to connect to Wi-Fi where available and safe to do so.
