More people are calling Sakatchewan home than ever before.

According to Statistics Canada, Saskatchewan’s population continues to grow, reaching 1,169,131 people as of April 1.

This marks an increase of 10,295 people in the past year and 708 people in the past quarter.

This is the 52nd consecutive quarter that Saskatchewan’s population has grown. The province has increased by 176,894 people in that time.

“Saskatchewan’s population continues to grow as we welcome newcomers from around the world,” Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison said in a press release. “This continued growth is a clear sign of the strength of our economy and of our quality of life.”

The government says that population growth continues to be driven by net international migration of 2,383 and a natural increase (births minus deaths) of 1,265. This is partially offset by net interprovincial migration of -2,940.
