When disaster strikes in the province, a new comprehensive website from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency will help keep everyone up to date with the latest information.

Imagine a spring where there's potential for major flooding in the city.

Or a summer storm that has been spawning tornadoes as it bears down on the city.

Or if you’re up north camping, seeing a wall of smoke on the horizon.

How would you know how dangerous the situation is, and if worst came to worst, how the disaster response would look?

That’s where the new Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency website comes into play.

The SPSA officially launched saskpublicsafety.ca on July 7, offering a comprehensive source for emergency information of all types across multiple devices.

“The site was designed so that residents can find emergency and disaster mitigation information quickly and efficiently,” Policing, Corrections and Public Safety Minister Christine Tell said. “It will also be connected to the provincial emergency alerting system, SaskAlert, making it easier to follow active events.”

The website provides residents with fire and emergency information, preventative education and tools, current fire bans, wildfire activities and even a map that displays the SPSA response to emergencies.

As an example, the site showed on Wednesday that there were 141 fire bans in the province, a slew of roadwork on Highway 33 from Regina to Francis, and 30 active wildfires in Saskatchewan, including five where firefighters were actively protecting property and 10 that weren’t contained.

The site will even soon have a interactive map showing the SPSA’s response to incidents in the province.

“This is only the beginning. The new website will continue to evolve to meet the needs of Saskatchewan residents and the agency's stakeholders,” Tell said.

The site will also continue to serve as the home for emergency management, Sask911, SaskAlert the Civic Addressing Registry, wildfire management and fire safety.
