The Saskatchewan Legislature is returning to action.

Government House Leader Jeremy Harrison and Opposition House Leader Cathy Sproule announced Tuesday that they have agreed to a modified arrangement for the Legislative Assembly to meet starting in June.

MLAs from throughout the province will gather in Regina for the first session on June 15 and will meet five days a week from Monday to Friday. It will mark the first meeting since legislative assembly adjourned on Mar. 18 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister of Finance Donna Harpauer will table the 2021 provincial budget on June 15, followed by 60 hours of legislative committee review in the coming days. The final vote on the budget will take place on July 2, followed by the session wrapping on July 3.

According to the Regina Leader-Post, the two parties have also agreed to limit the number of MLAs taking part, with just 10 government and five NDP members present.

The decision comes after a series of negotiations between the Sask Party and NDP, with the previous public offer seeing the government planning an eight-day sitting with five question periods.

While the budget will be the main priority of the 14-day sitting, the government may conduct other legislative business, time permitting.
