Saskatchewan’s economy continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, according to data from Statistics Canada.
Saskatchewan added 13,300 jobs in July compared to June. Overall, there were 551,100 people employed in the province last month.
Unemployment fell by 2.8 per cent to 8.8 per cent. That is the second-lowest rate among the provinces, behind only Manitoba at 8.2 per cent
Saskatchewan also has the second-highest employment recovery rate in the country at 94.9 per cent, when compared to February, the last month before the pandemic. New Brunswick is first in the country with a rate of 96.6 per cent.
“Saskatchewan continues to see positive effects resulting from the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan, as the province’s job growth remains one of the highest in Canada,” Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison said in a press release. “This means that many residents of Saskatchewan have been able to safely return to the workforce as our economy is on the right path for a strong recovery.”
