Public health released the specifics for the second dose rollout of the COVID-19 vaccination plan earlier this week, outlining an eligibility schedule that wraps up in July.

Beginning on May 17, the Saskatchewan Health Authority launched availability for second dose vaccines, beginning with residents aged 85 and older or who had received their first dose before Feb. 15.

Cancer patients, organ transplant recipients or individuals with high clinical priority are also included in this first eligibility group.

On May 24, eligibility expands to include individuals aged 80 and older or who had received their first dose on or before Mar. 1.

Moving forward, residents will be able to receive their second vaccine dose following age sequencing similar to the first rollout, or by the date of their first dose to remain within the 13-week recommended window.

Future eligibility changes will continue on a weekly schedule as follows:

  • May 31: ages 70 and older or who received first dose on or before Mar. 15;
  • June 7: ages 65 and older or who received first dose on or before Mar. 22;
  • June 14: ages 55 and older or who received first dose on or before April 7;
  • June 21: ages 45 and older or who received first dose on or before April 15.

From here, eligibility will change based solely on the date of first doses:

  • June 28: received first dose on or before May 1;
  • July 5: received first dose on or before May 15;
  • July 12: received first dose on or before May 30;
  • July 19: received first dose on or before June 14;
  • July 26: received first dose on or before June 28.

Second doses are available at any of the SHA’s vaccine clinics, including walk-in and drive-through sites, and at participating pharmacies. Appointments can be booked either online or by calling the Vaccine Call Centre at 1-833-SASKVAX (727-5829).

At this time, public health is planning to offer second dose shots to match the brand of the first dose received, following national advice regarding interchanging vaccine brands.

Residents are asked to know what the brand of their first dose was, and if they are attending a first-come first-serve clinic, to choose one delivering the correct brand of vaccine.
