During the daily report on COVID-19 cases in the province today, the Saskatchewan government shared that the Ministry of Health is considering implementing more public measures in the near future.

Chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab is expected to announce additional public health measures to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 on Friday morning, as the province’s cases continue to rise in number.

The promise of more measures comes after Saskatchewan has seen active case increase by 700 per cent over the last month, bringing the total number of active cases to an all-time high at 1,459.

The rise in cases linked to public transmission prompted Shahab and the Ministry of Health to recently implement mandatory masking in public spaces for the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert beginning on Nov. 6.

Following the order, hundreds of Saskatchewan doctors penned an open letter to the provincial government shared on Nov. 11, calling on more action from public health to curb the spread of COVID-19 as Saskatchewan intensive care units are reported to be at 130 per cent capacity.

Stay tuned for more updates after the announcement tomorrow.
