Sacred Heart students take magical ride on the Polar Express to celebrate Christmas

The school’s Polar Express/North Pole program kicked off on Dec. 15 with a turkey lunch in the gym featuring all the typical foods, such as potatoes, gravy and cranberries.

Students at Sacred Heart Elementary School took a magical, imagination-stretching adventure to the North Pole recently as part of activities to celebrate the Christmas season.

The school’s Polar Express/North Pole program kicked off on Dec. 15 with a turkey lunch in the gym featuring all the typical foods, such as potatoes, gravy and cranberries, explained Principal Terry Marak.

“We had a Christmas atmosphere that was wonderful for the children,” he remarked.

Then, from Dec. 18 to 19, teachers set up the gym to look like a locomotive engine with passenger cars so each class could take a trip on the Polar Express train. This trip allowed the kids to travel over the mountains and through tunnels into a winter wonderland.

The youths eventually reached the North Pole and the Enchanted Forest, where they worked on Christmas projects and created artwork to take home.

Marak added that the school also held three Advent liturgies in December as part of the Church’s preparations for the coming of the baby Jesus.
