It was not the way the Saskatchewan Roughriders wanted the Labour Day Classic to play out.
The Riders suffered their first loss of the season, dropping a 23-8 decision to their rivals the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on home turf.
It was a low scoring affair for much of the contest, with Saskatchewan taking a 8-7 lead into the second half. A seven-play, 87-yard touchdown drive from Winnipeg during the third quarter turned out to be the difference maker.
Blue Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros went 19-27 on the day for 245 yards. Collaros had one touchdown and one interception. Riders QB Cody Fajardo went 23 for 39 for 211 yards with three interceptions.
The Riders are now 3-1 on the season, while Winnipeg improves to 4-1.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday, Sept. 11 in Winnipeg for the Banjo Bowl.
