For the second straight game, the Saskatchewan Roughriders just couldn’t solve the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Riders dropped a 33-9 decision to the Blue Bombers in the Banjo Bowl game in Winnipeg. The defeat comes on the heels of a 23-8 loss to Winnipeg last week in the Labour Day Classic.

Blue Bomber quarterback Zach Collaros went 18 for 25 with 278 yards and two touchdowns. His backup, Sean McGuire, scored three touchdowns.

Saskatchewan QB Cody Fajardo, on the other hand, completed 11 of 17 passes for 169 yards. He left the game in the third quarter due to concussion protocol following a sack from the Bombers’ Willie Jefferson. Isaac Harker entered the game and completed 10 of 13 passes for 89 yards.

Kicker Brett Lauther supplied the offence for the Riders, completing three field goals. Saskatchewan scored on their first possession and led the game 9-6 in the second quarter — but it was all Winnipeg from there.

Two members of the Green and White — defensive lineman Garrett Marino and defensive back A.J. Hendry — were ejected from the game following a brawl in the second quarter.

The Riders drop to 3-2 on the season and remain in second place in the West. Winnipeg is now 5-1 and is in first place.

Saskatchewan’s next game is against the Toronto Argonauts on Friday, Sept. 17 at Mosaic Stadium.
