A popular online travel information and booking site has compiled reviews about Moose Jaw attractions and has produced a list of the top 10 spots offered in Moose Jaw and area.

TripAdvisor was founded in 2000 in The United States and ranks attractions based on reviews of travellers who have stopped to visit and then share their opinions.

Topping the list once again in the most recent rankings is Tunnels of Moose Jaw with one of the reviewers raving about the experience. “Great entertainment and history of Moose Jaw. Our kids really enjoyed the Capone tour although I would suggest 8+ as an age group,” said Scott who visited on Aug. 7.

In second place on the list is the Moose Jaw branch of the Western Development Museum. Claire, who visited in July said: “It’s very easy for 3+ hours to fly by while walking through the Moose Jaw WDM. I love the Saskatchewan WDMs so I knew I would enjoy this one as well. Everyone I have taken to it have also enjoyed it and have kept us there for hours wandering. Cute little gift shop and outdoor train rides cap off a well spent afternoon in Moose Jaw.”

A village and ship about 13 kms south of Moose Jaw on No. 2 Highway is ranked third on the attractions list. Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village and Museum was considered an interesting place by a Winnipeg guest who visited on July 22. “We enjoyed the old buildings in the museum and were amazed that someone would build a ship on the Prairies and plan a route back home. We recognized many of the items in the buildings. The young woman in the reception area was very knowledgeable.” The population of the village will grow during the annual threshing bee planned for Sept. 10 and 11.

Wakamow Valley achieved fourth spot, with many walking trails, playgrounds, water sports opportunities, campground and natural habitat. A July visitor had this to say about the park: “This place is super peaceful and the nature of this place is awesome when you go here alone or when you go with your friends or family. The only down side …the food area has been closed and is now a private area. But everything else is awesome.”

The Saskatchewan Burrowing Owl Interpretive Centre on the Moose Jaw Exhibition Grounds stands in sixth spot and is currently experiencing a busy summer with numerous guests supporting the adopt-an-owl program. “A great place to take a coffee and sit and watch (the owls) or talk to one of the attendants. Take a break and still have something to do if you want,” a visitor wrote.

Northeast of the city is the seventh place site, Buffalo Pound Provincial Park. One of the reviewers was happy with the wide camping sites, the free firewood and the short walk to the lake. This guest was also impressed with the mini golf, boat rentals and the nearby boat launch.

Casino Moose Jaw came in at eighth spot. “The first thing that got my attention was the friendly staff. They were awesome. Games were average to above average as far as selection. The payouts were average,” reported one visitor.

The Mac the Moose monument, sitting near the Snowbirds Tutor on the east side of Moose Jaw, placed ninth in the city’s top 10 spots. A British Columbia visitor from Aug. 4 had this to say: “What would a trip to Moose Jaw be if it did not include having your picture taken by Mac the Moose? Both my wife and I took our turn at this. The visitor centre had some interesting displays about the past history of Moose Jaw. Picnic tables were provided. Had fun watching the Prairie Dogs scamper about. It seems there is more to Moose Jaw than just a strange name. Check it out.”

Crescent Park, long considered as Moose Jaw’s jewel in the centre of the city, ranked 10th in the TripAdvisor’s review placement. “The water was clean and there were lots of ducks swimming about. It’s great to take a walk through early in the morning,” wrote a visitor from earlier this month. The Queen’s Rose garden is being maintained by volunteers and the George Price Memorial, a new addition to the park, shows off Vimy Ridge poppies in bloom. Concerts in the Park continue Wednesdays until Aug. 24.
