Region loses 2,900 workers and 1,300 unemployed

Almost half as many workers in the Moose Jaw Swift Current employment region were out of work at the end of July as one year ago.

The Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey shows 2,600 jobless in the region at July 31 — a reduction from 5,900 one year before.

The region lost 2,900 employees from one year ago with 54,000 compared to 56,900 the year before.

The region’s unemployment rate fell from 6.9 per cent to 4.8 per cent during the last year but is the highest rate in five Saskatchewan regions.

Lowest unemployment at 3.1 per cent is in Yorkton-Melville, with second in Saskatoon-Biggar at 4.1 per cent and 4.2 per cent for Prince Albert Northern

Regina-Moose Mountain unemployment rate is 4.4 per cent.

Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate has fallen from 6.6 per cent to 4.2 per cent.
