Public Library reveals interesting statistics for most-borrowed items in 2023

The Moose Jaw Public Library (MJPL) has revealed their statistics for the most-borrowed items of 2023, including adult non-fiction, fiction, movies, young adult fiction including graphic novels and manga titles, video games, and young adult fiction.

"There's definitely some interesting finds," said Naiomi Setter, public service and social media clerk at the MJPL. "These are items that were borrowed (from) MJPL. The numbers are based on initial checkouts and do not include renewals. 

"Author dominance includes Colleen Hoover, Sarah J. Maas, Dav Pilkey, and Super Mario Bros games by Nintendo."

The lists show that children's author Dav Pilkey, known for his Cat Kid, Dog Man, and Captain Underpants series, has maintained his commanding lead in popularity among younger readers. In terms of video games, the Nintendo Switch platform took every position in the top ten most-borrowed list.

For adult non-fiction readers, celebrity biographies and auto-biographies wielded a big influence, with books by and about Prince Harry, Pamela Anderson, and Matthew Perry, among others, taking top spots.
