The Moose Jaw Public Library (MJPL) will begin its Summer Reading Club on June 17 with a ‘Galactic Adventure’ in Crescent Park, and the newly formed Moose Jaw Chess Club will begin regular Sunday meetings in the MJPL South Meeting Room.

The June 17 event to open this summer’s reading club will be in Crescent Park on the lawn in front of the library, weather permitting, from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is an all-ages party, and will include games, crafts, a movie, face painting, and some snacks. Summer Reading Club packages will be available for pick up.

Another new opportunity at the library is a co-operation with the new Moose Jaw Chess Club (MJCC) for twice-monthly meetings on Sundays — June 11 and 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. The club will hold its first library meeting on May 28.

The MJCC held its first meeting on May 1 at Bobby’s Place tavern, and immediately began planning for a second regular venue that would be accessible to all ages. Everyone is welcome at the MJCC’s library meetings, from children and adults playing for the very first time to chess enthusiasts wanting the occasional break from playing online.
