Businesses can now access a new training program that helps employees learn how to adjust to COVID-19 protocols.

Earlier today the Government of Saskatchewan announced the Re-Open Saskatchewan Training Subsidy (RSTS) program. It will reimburse eligible private-sector employers 100 per cent of employee training costs up to a maximum of $10,000 per business to mitigate against additional financial impacts from training required to support their safe re-opening.

Employees will learn about enhanced safety protocols as it relates to health and safety requirements and how to adapt to social distancing requirements.

“This program is another tool to support Saskatchewan businesses through this challenging period by fully funding the costs of the short-term training necessary to re-open and adapt to the post-COVID environment,” Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison said in a press release. “Through this program and other initiatives, we remain committed to working with businesses during this period of economic recovery throughout the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan.”

The $2 million RSTS program will support short-term training of employees. The program is being launched as a temporary emergency response. It is meant for eligible employers, including those on the government’s list of critical public services, as well as those who are currently allowed to operate or that will be resuming business as per the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan.

The deadline to apply for RSTS is July 31.
