Dance Images by BJ is participating in a new event this year called Saskatchewan Dances Together, which brings in dancers from across the province to perform a chosen choreographed piece.

The goal is to make this an annual event; this first get-together will be held today, October 27.

Studios across the province will choose how to celebrate the day if they decide to participate in the event, explained Barb Jackman, owner of Dance Images by BJ. Anyone who is teaching dance movement to classes are welcome to participate.

Participating studios will learn the choreography, upload it to their own business social media platforms with the hashtag #SKdancestogether. The hashtag will be used to bring students of all ages, cultures, and dance styles together across those platforms to watch, enjoy and share.

Dancers will be wearing provincial colors, green and yellow, to show the love of dance and bringing Saskatchewan together, looking forward to performing on stage for the 2022 spring performance season.

“This all came about by discussions from dance educators within our province as an opportunity for us to celebrate and connect across the province,” said Jackman.

“With COVID-19 and the restrictions, the dance world has not been able to perform for the last couple years. We are still not sure what that is going to look like this year, but we feel like we wanted to bring dance to the top of the mind for people throughout the province.”

To find the choreography there are several dance networks for professionals. The event has already been posted on the studio’s website and many other social media dance platforms, while the link has also been emailed out and shared throughout the dance community.

“We are really relying on people to get on their social media that day and share it amongst themselves. This week Regina’s CTV and Global TV will be airing an interview to highlight this event,” said Jackman.

Please find Dance Images by BJ on Facebook and Instagram.  Jackman hopes that viewers will share this information online, showing that the dance community in Saskatchewan is still active.

“This event aims to help people be aware that dance is still alive and well and to remember all the benefits that dance has brought to children and adults:  physical health, mental health, stress relief and team-work, time management and the freedom of expression.  Dance studios become a second home to students,” said Jackman.

According to Jackman, dancers spend several months training, then they learn their choreography and display it for a couple of months before going back into training.
