It wasn’t long ago that seeing 27 new COVID-19 cases reported in the province in a single day would be a major cause for concern.
But after the numbers seen since July 22, which revealed 60 new cases had been found, and July 23, which revealed 42, it’s actually a marked improvement.
Of the new COVID-19 a total of 24 were reported in the South, while one was reported in each of the Central, North and Regina regions.
There are now 1,099 reported cases in the province. Currently, there are 235 active cases.
A total of 848 people have recovered.
Almost all of the new cases in the South, 21, came from Hutterite colonies in the southwest and west central regions. A total of 21 Hutterite communities in the area have active cases.
As of July 24, there are 189 total cases (active and recovered) in the southwest region: 172 of these are on 11 colonies and 17 are in the general community. In west central region, there are 93 total cases: 76 are on 10 colonies and 17 are in the general community.
Fourteen people are in hospital, with 10 receiving inpatient care; five in Saskatoon, two in the South, one in the North, one in Regina and one in the Central region. Four people are in intensive care; three in Saskatoon and one in the South.
Of the 1,099 cases in the province:
- 197 cases are travellers;
- 571 are community contacts (including mass gatherings);
- 216 have no known exposures; and
- 115 are under investigation by local public health.
Overall in Saskatchewan:
- 59 cases are health care workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to health care in all instances.
- 169 cases involve people 19 years of age and under, while the remainder are adults.
- 364 cases are in the 20-39 age range; 345 are in the 40-59 age range; 187 are in the 60-79 age range; and 34 are in the 80-plus range.
- 51 per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males.
On a regional level, 347 of the cases are from the Far North, with the now-220 cases in the South officially eclipsing Saskatoon’s 218 cases as the second hardest hit region. A total of 97 cases are in the Central region and 88 from the Regina area.
A total of 16 deaths have attributed to COVID-19 to date, including a man in his 60s from the North reported on Thursday.
Saskatchewan hit an all-time single-day high of 1,604 tests on Thursday, bringing the total to 87,988. The per capita testing rate sits at 63,859 per million population, with a national average of 98,361.
