The Prairie Hockey Academy is back in action Tuesday night in Caronport.
The long wait is finally over for the Prairie Hockey Academy.

After almost a year away from the game, the Canadian Sport School Hockey League program is only a few hours away from hosting their U16 Prep home opener, marking their first regular-season contest at Barkman Arena in Caronport since Nov. 21, 2020.

The U16 Cougars officially returned to action this past weekend when they travelled to Edmonton to face the Northern Alberta XTreme for a two-game set, falling 6-0 on Friday and dropping a 13-2 decision in the rematch Saturday.

The Xtreme built period leads of 1-0 and 4-0 in the opening game and kept Cougars goaltender Tyson Boshneck plenty busy, pouring 50 shots on net. PHA had 15 shots of their own.

Northern Alberta made many more of those shots count in Saturday’s contest, taking a 6-1 lead out of the first period and leading 10-2 after two. Mikale Budz and Dylan Duzan scored for the Cougars, who saw Willy Broda make 25 saves in 43:51 of work before giving away to Borshneck, who closed things out with 14 stops of his own.

That sets the stage for Tuesday’s contest in Caronport, which will see the Notre Dame Hounds making the trip west to take on the Cougars. Game time is 7 p.m. at Barkman Arena.

All told, PHA will be fielding four teams this season.

The U15 Prep Cougars open their season on the Oct. 15-16 weekend when they travel to Notre Dame, while the U16 crew are back on the ice after tonight when they host Edge Academy on Oct. 23-24.

The PHA U17 Prep team will play their first game on Wednesday night when they host Notre Dame (7 p.m., Barkman) and the U18 Prep team host South Alberta for a pair of games this weekend, with Friday’s contest at 7 p.m. and Saturday’s rematch at 11 a.m.
