Prairie Hockey Academy hosting Midget Varsity tournament this weekend

Second annual Prairie Classic set to hit Barkman Arena, Red Knight Arena
A total of 10 teams from throughout western Canada will be taking the ice during the Prairie Hockey Academy’s second annual Midget Varsity Prairie Classic this weekend in Caronport and 15 Wing.

The event will draw teams from the Canadian Sports School Hockey League as well as some of the top Midget ‘AA’ squads in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, with games beginning Friday morning and running through Sunday evening at both Barkman Arena and Red Knight Arena.

The Prairie Hockey Academy Cougars kick things off against the Leduc Midget ‘AA’ Roughnecks at 11 a.m. on Friday before playing their second round robin contest against the Fernie, B.C. Academy Fury at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Also seeing action in their pool at Barkman Arena will be Kelowna’s Pursuit of Excellence and Winnipeg’s River East Marauders.

Playing in Pool B at Red Knight Arena will be Pilot Mound Hockey Academy and Calgary’s International Hockey Academy alongside the Regina Capitals, Weyburn Wings and Brandon Wheat Kings.

The top four teams from each round robin pool will advance to the quarter-finals beginning 3:30 p.m. Saturday at both arenas, followed by the semifinals at 8 a.m., consolation games at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and championship final at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
