A recent series of polls on MooseJawToday.com show that even as we start to see lower case numbers and continued recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, Moose Jaw prefers to remain cautious.

A poll posted on June 1 asked “As the province slowly reopens, how do you feel about the COVID-19 pandemic now?” showed that almost half of the 172 votes cast – 46.51 per cent – felt the situation is okay at the moment, but now is not the time for complacency.

That largely stems from the current situation in Saskatchewan, which sees only 17 active cases as of June 9, including a single case in the south, including Moose Jaw, Swift Current and Weyburn.

Of the 654 cases that have been found in the province, 624 have recovered.

A quarter of respondents stated they were just as concerned as before, while a further 22 per cent said they weren’t worried to begin with and only six per cent said they weren’t as concerned as before.

A more recent poll from June 5 asking “The province says we likely won't enter the fifth and final phase of the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan until June 2021. What is your reaction?” was nearly split down the middle when it came to its responses, with 48 per cent of 221 voters saying the date was too far away and 45 per cent expressing it was better to be cautious. Seven per cent said they weren’t sure.

The Government of Saskatchewan made the announcement on June 4 as part of a further reveal when it comes to potential Phase 4 opening, which would include day camps, outdoors pools, outdoor sports and activities in part one, followed by indoor pools, rinks, libraries, museums, galleries, movie theatres, casinos and bingo halls.

Phase 5 would mark the final reopening of the province to all activities with no restrictions.

The MooseJawToday.com poll is an unscientific sampling of public opinion intended solely to allow our readers to express themselves on issues of the day. Its findings may not be representative of the general population of Moose Jaw or other areas.
