Police charge woman with 53 counts of fraud for faking terminal illness

From December 2021 to January 2022, Katelyn Marie Ann Carle, 28, defrauded businesses and residents approximately $16,000 by way of organized fundraisers and other financial assistance.

The Moose Jaw Police Service has charged Katelyn Marie Ann Carle with 53 counts of fraud under $5,000 after defrauding local businesses and residents by falsely stating that she had a terminal illness.

From December 2021 to January 2022, Carle, 28, defrauded businesses and residents approximately $16,000 by way of organized fundraisers and other financial assistance. 

Those individuals who assisted in organizing the fundraisers were not complicit in these offences. 

The police service is in the process of contacting the victims of these offences.

Carle will make her first appearance in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Monday, Dec. 11. 

The Moose Jaw Police Service is encouraging residents who believe they have been defrauded and have not yet been contacted to call the agency at 306-694-7600.
