Jason Ackerman and Derek Owens, here in action during the 2019 Sask Curling Tour stop in Moose Jaw, will be one of the teams to watch this weekend.
There will be no shortage of local players and rinks to cheer for when the Sask Curling Tour visits the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre this weekend.

Almost half the field of 15 teams will feature local connections at the event, which kicks off with the first draw on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Jason Ackerman and his rink of third Brent Gedak, second Derek Owens and lead Curtis Horwath are the defending champions from the last time the tournament was held in 2019, with one small change -- Ackerman and Gedak have switched positions.

Owens hails from Moose Jaw, while Ackerman and Gedak are former provincial junior champions out of the Hillcrest Sports Centre.

They open their tournament against Saskatoon’s Matthew Drewitz during the opening draw.

Ben Gamble and his rink of third Braydan Mohns, second Tyler Krupski and lead Scott Manners are one of three rinks curling out of the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre, with their first game at 9 p.m. Friday against Regina’s Jaedon Miller.

Moose Jaw’s Sam Wills, third Grady Lamontange, second Blake Hoffman and lead Brody Blackwell are on the ice at 5:30 p.m. against Saskatoon’s Nolan Lindberg, who includes Moose Jaw’s Daniel Moerike at second.

Brett Behm, third Brendan Ross, second Daniel Mutlow and lead Ian Howell open their tournament at 5:30 p.m. against another team with local connections in Saskatoon’s Jesse St. John, who includes former Tankard champion Joel Jordison at third and Dane Roy at second.

Action in the triple knock-out tournament continues throughout the weekend, with three draws on Saturday and Sunday and the championship final set for 4:30 p.m.
