Pee Wee Mustangs win, lose against Swift Current

Rampage take 5-3 win over Mustangs 2 before Mustangs 1 edge Swift Current 7-6
The Moose Jaw Pee Wee Mustangs 1 might have had revenge on their mind when they took on the Swift Current Rampage in South Sask Lacrosse League action on Sunday afternoon.

After all, the Rampage had just taken a 5-3 win over the Pee Wee Mustangs 2 earlier in the day, remaining the only unbeaten team in the league.

At that point.

The Mustangs 2 scored a pair of goals in the final four minutes to pull out a 7-6 victory at the Kinsmen Sportsplex, improving to 2-2-1 on the season and knocking Swift Current to 4-1-1.

The two teams went into the final frame tied 4-4, with Brodyn Pladson scoring a pair of goals for the Mustangs to go along with single markers from Austin Smith and Ryder Gilroy.

Shane Cornelson had two goals for Swift Current heading into the third, Hudson Hayden and Brady Simpson their other goals.

The back-and-forth third period saw Daxer Schroeder score early in the period to put the Rampage ahead 5-4 before Pladson scored his third of the game to tie things with 7:53 to play.

Cornelson then finished off his hat trick only 1:13 later to give Swift Current a 6-5 lead, setting the stage for the Mustangs’ late-game heroics.

Pladson kicked off the rally with the game-tying goal with 3:29 remaining and 1:19 later Gilroy scored his second to put Moose Jaw ahead 7-6 and set the stage for their narrow victory.

Scoring information was unavailable from the first game.

The Pee Wee Mustangs 1 don’t play again until June 8 when they travel to Estevan; the Pee Wee 2 Mustangs are back in action Wednesday, May 29 when they host Regina (7 p.m., Kinsmen Sportsplex).
