Pedestrian struck by vehicle, driver arrested

A Winnipeg man has been arrested after hitting a pedestrian with a car.

In the early hours of the morning on Aug. 22, the Moose Jaw Police Service received several calls regarding an erratic driver in the 1200 block of Main St. North. Reports indicated the driver was recklessly operating a motor vehicle, had crashed into a meridian, and almost hit multiple pedestrians. 

Police were able to locate the man and the vehicle, at which time it was learned that the vehicle was reported as stolen out of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

While on scene, police were notified that a pedestrian had allegedly been struck by the vehicle. The pedestrian was transported to hospital by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries and was later released. 

The 23-year-old driver from Winnipeg was arrested. He is being held for court on Monday, Aug. 24. He faces the following charges:

  • impaired driving causing bodily harm;
  • refusal of breath demand;
  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • obstructing a police officer
  • possession of stolen property over $5,000;
  • three counts of breach of release order; and
  • breach of conditional sentence order.

No further information has been released at this time.
