Neither the Peacock Toilers nor Notre Dame Hounds appeared all that interested in taking a loss in Moose Jaw high school boys basketball league action on Thursday night.

So when it came down to crunch time, it was all hands on deck -- and then some.

After only managing to score 69 points between them through three quarters, the two clubs exploded for 64 in the final 10 minutes as Peacock went on to a 70-65 victory in Wilcox.

Notre Dame got off to one of their best starts of the season, taking a 23-12 lead out of the first quarter. Peacock got back into the swing of things before the half, though, outscoring the Hounds 15-7 in the second to trail by only three at the break.

It was all defence in the third quarter, though, as neither team was able to get anything going under the opposition’s basket, leading to Notre Dame holding a 36-33 lead -- with Peacock putting up seven points to the Hounds’ six.

Then came the fourth quarter, and fireworks galore.

Peacock proceeded to outdo their entire previous offensive output in the game with 35 points over the final 10 minutes, and Notre Dame was right there with them with 29, leading to one of the highest-scoring quarters in league play this season.

The five-point win saw Peacock improve to 4-1 on the campaign, while Notre Dame fell to 1-6.

The Toilers had four players reach double digits in scoring as balance proved to be their key. Bryce Baumann and Rafael Pondevida led the way with 11 points each, Nathan McDougall and Dominick Mall had 10 apiece.

John Lopez had a 25-point outing for the Hounds, Joey Rocha and Owen Thomas picked up 11 each.

The Toilers are right back in action Friday night at Vanier in a game rescheduled from Feb. 3.

Next girls league action is slated for Monday as Notre Dame travels to Lumsden.

Both contests start at 6:20 p.m.
