Peacock, Briercrest Christian post impressive wins in volleyball season openers

Cornerstone girls, Central boys also victorious as new campaign kicks into high gear
The first full night of competition in the Moose Jaw high school girls and boys volleyball league traditionally sees some interesting results, and the 2019 edition was no exception.

In boys action at Cornerstone Christian School, the Falcons picked up a 25-20 victory over the Central Cyclones in the opening set but were unable to keep their momentum going as the Cyclones rebounded in style, taking the next three games 25-11, 25-12, 25-21 for a 3-1 victory.

The Briercrest Christian Academy Cougars picked up a sweep in their match with the Peacock Toilers, but all three contests were close – 25-19, 26-24 and 25-22.

Peacock made an emphatic statement in their first match in girls’ league play with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-6) victory over Briercrest.

The closest match of the night came in girls action between the Cyclones and Falcons, as the Cyclones built a 2-1 lead with 25-24 wins bookending a 25-20 win by Cornerstone. The Falcons would settle down from there, winning 25-17 and 15-10 to close out the victory.

League action continues on Tuesday, Sept. 17 with a full slate of games, as Briercrest hosts Cornerstone, Riverview takes on Vanier (both game 6:20 p.m.) and Peacock travelling to Avonlea (7 p.m.). Girls league play will see Briercrest at Central and Vanier at Conerstone. Both games start at 8 p.m.
