Plenty of drivers were caught red handed in November.

As part of November’s Traffic Safety Spotlight, police and SGI focused on suspended drivers and unregistered vehicles. Police across the province reported 302 drivers caught driving while suspended or disqualified, along with 515 offences for unregistered vehicles/trailers.

Additionally, police issued tickets to 181 drivers driving without a valid licence, 64 learner drivers operating a vehicle without a supervising driver, and 44 drivers failing to comply with a licence endorsement or restriction.

In total, that is 1,106 instances where drivers should not have been behind the wheel.

On the positive side, SGI reports that less distracted driving tickets were issued last month. That comes fresh off the month of October, which set a new single-month record for the number of distracted driving offences.

Last month, Saskatchewan police issued 653 distracted driving tickets, of which 560 were for cell phone use. It is the first time in nine months that a single-month total has dipped below 700.

Other infractions noted by police in November include:

  • 286 impaired driving offences (including 255 Criminal Code charges);
  • 5,172 tickets for speeding/aggressive driving offences;
  • 322 tickets related to improper seatbelt or child restraint use.
