The Saskatchewan Health Authority confirmed Saturday that an outbreak of COVID-19 in the northern portion of the province is linked to travel with Alberta.

The SHA announced in a press release that it is currently conducting a tracing investigation to precisely identify the source, but that the new cases came from individuals who travelled from Alberta to the northwestern part of the province.

An outbreak of three cases was reported in La Loche on Friday, including one who is a resident in a long-term healthcare facility.

There have been reports of multiple COVID-19 cases at an oilsands facility north of Fort McMurray.

Medical health officers are advising that all travel between northwest Saskatchewan and northern Alberta be reduced to essential-only, and that all northern Saskatchewan residents self-isolate for 14 days after returning from northern Alberta.

Anyone developing symptoms of COVID-19 after such travel should call HealthLine 811 or their community health centre for advice.
