Gardeners flexing their green thumbs can now be recognized by the city for their efforts.
Nominations are now being accepted for the City of Moose Jaw’s Beautification Awards. The awards have been handed out annually since 1981 and serve to formally recognize gardeners in several categories.
The categories are:
- best residential property;
- best residential planters and/or balcony;
- best commercial property;
- best environmentally-conscious property;
- best residential edible garden.
For the best residential property, only the front yard will be evaluated. Similarly, for the best residential edible garden, only the edible garden portion of the yard will be considered.
Properties can only compete in one category per year. By agreeing to participate, you are providing consent that judges will visit your property and take photos.
To encouarge participation, properties may only win an award once every five years.
For a complete list of rules, as well as a description of judging criteria, visit the city’s website.
Entry forms are available online, or you can pick up a hard copy at city hall. Forms should be returned to the parks and recreation department, located on the fourth floor of city hall.
Nominations will be accepted until June 21.
The awards will be presented during a regular meeting of city council at a later date.
