Moose Jaw will become a hotspot for some of the hottest cars and trucks from throughout Western Canada during the Next Gen Car Club Show and Shine this Sunday evening in Tatawaw Park.

Event organizer Jaideep Singh estimates that close to 300 vehicles of all stripes, sizes and vintages will take part in the event, which begins with registration at 4 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. in the former Wild Animal Park.

“It’s going to be a big show and I just really hope people don’t miss out,” Singh said. “We have people coming from different cities and provinces and we have different leaders in different cities, so they’re going to lead the cars from their cities to Moose Jaw… We have a lot of responses on Facebook, a lot of people are saying they’re going so it’s going to be pretty awesome.”

The event — sponsored by Roadway Auto and Sport — will feature a host of awards, including Best in Show, Best Import, Best Muscle, Best Stance and Best Modified, along with participation giveaways.

Competitions will include Lowest Car, Best Exhaust and Loudest Bass.

The competitions will begin at 7 p.m., followed by giveaways and awards at 8:45 p.m. and a sunset cruise down Main Street at the conclusion of the show.

Next Gen has done their due diligence in getting everything set up — they made sure everything is approved through the provincial government, following pandemic restrictions, as well as with the City of Moose Jaw to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible.

A large part of their preparations involved the park itself. Volunteers from Next Gen descended on Tatawaw a couple weeks ago with tools and even a skid steer to whip the park into shape for Sunday’s crowds.

“Tatawaw hasn’t been used very often in the last few years, so we went out and did all the work ourselves to get the park ready,” Singh said. “It was a lot of cleaning up and removing grass and weeds and things like that, but we had a lot of great volunteers who helped us get things ready.”

The event is also acting as a fundraiser for the Moose Jaw Humane Society. While there’s no entry fee for the Show and Shine, donations will be taken at the park entrance, with proceeds going back to the shelter. The plan worked well during their previous Moose Jaw stop last year, where they raised over $1,000 in cash and critter supplies.

Singh hopes that after so much time at home the last few months, folks will be itching for an evening in the warm sun — the weather is expected to be sunny and in the 29 C range — while checking out all the event will have to offer.

“That’s exactly what we wanted to do,” he said. “People have been cooped up in their houses for way too long and that’s why we’re hosting this event. It’s a chance for everyone to come out and enjoy the day, so just go to a car meet and have a fun night out.”
