New building permit values soar 33 per cent in May, data show

MOOSE JAW — Development of a 20-unit residential complex on South Hill led building permit values during a busy May.

The $3.7 million project helped a 33 per cent increase in values issued by city hall.

Year-to-date permit values were $21.66 million for an increase of $6.2 million.

Another major project is a $2.8 million commercial building at 839 Snyder Road in Grayson Business Park.

A $496,000 permit was issued by the city for alterations to a wholesale-retail outlet at 369B Thatcher Drive East. 

Two permits were for upgrading space for restaurants –$200,000 for the Freshi site on Thatcher Drive East and $20,000 for a cafe-bakery at 264 High Street East, next to the former Legion building.

SIAST was issued two permits worth $509,000 in total for projects at the Saskatchewan  Street campus.

Seven garage and carport permits worth $288,000 were issued.

Two residential house units permits were issued compared to two last May.

Housing construction lags 2024 with 23 units and $4.36 million value compared with 35 units worth $13.8 million in 2024.

No demolition permits were issued.
