On June 22nd, The South West District for Culture, Recreation, and Sport Inc. (SWDCRS) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Zoom.

Two new board members were welcomed. It was also a moment to say farewell to five departing members.

In addition to the new members, the AGM also discussed bylaw changes, the operations year-in- review, recognition of staff years of service, recognition of departing board members, and some comments from guests.

"We added two new ones (board members) this year. There's usually only one or two every year that we bring on, but this year we were able to bring on two new ones," says Christie Saas, Executive Director of SWDRCS.

The new 2022-2023 South West District Board is:

  • Emily Bamforth (Eastend)
  • Bula Ghosh (Swift Current)
  • Dana Dale (Shaunavon)
  • Rosa Vazquez (Eastend)
  • Lori Crighton (Assiniboia)
  • Rebecca Anderson (Hazlet)
  • Chantelle Rouault-Gibson (Moose Jaw)

The SWDRCS is a non-profit organization that works with communities, clubs, and volunteers to develop culture, recreation, and sports in the district that Moose Jaw resides in. They are one of seven districts in the province of Saskatchewan.

Although SWDRCS doesn’t directly perform workshops, they work with the recreational director to develop strategies and tips on how to throw events and workshops.

All the work done by board members is strictly volunteer work, as SWDRCS operates as a Non-profit organization.  This year, the staff and board members are beginning to go out and meet individuals in their region again, following two years of Zoom meetings due to the pandemic.

"We aren’t a storefront kind of organization. Our job is to go to the people who need us,” said Saas.  “So, although we do have offices, they are all home offices and we don't have people come to our home offices."

The district border goes south to the American border, north to Lake Diefenbaker, west to the Alberta border, and cuts through Pense to the east.
