The Moose Jaw 14-and-under Mustangs will have a chance to win a provincial gold medal on their home floor on Sunday morning.
The Mustangs won all three of their round-robin games and the semifinal this weekend at Mosaic Place and the Kinsmen Arena, and as a result, will play for the Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association title at 11:30 a.m. at Mosaic Place.
Moose Jaw opened their run with a 9-5 win over the Weyburn Thrashers on Thursday before downing the Regina Waterdogs 6-3 and the Saskatoon Rush 7-3 to finish first in their preliminary pool.
That sent the Mustangs into the semifinal, where they took a 7-4 win over the Regina Outlaws to book their spot in the gold medal game.
The 16U Mustangs are also well in the hunt for their provincial title, having defeated the Regina Octane 8-2 and Swift Current Rampage 6-4 in the round robin. They play the Rampage again at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, with the winners playing for gold at 3:15 p.m. Sunday at Mosaic Place.
The news wasn’t quite as good for the Mustangs in the 12U division, as a 12-4 loss to the Regina Crossfire will see them play for bronze at 12:30 p.m .Sunday at Mosaic Place.
The Mustangs fell 9-3 to the Weyburn Thrashers in their opener before winning 9-1 over the Regina Queens. That sent them into the tournament quarter-final, where Moose Jaw rolled to an 8-2 win over the Standing Buffalo Fighting Sioux.
