Update: Tornado alerts cancelled

Meteorologists are tracking severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel-sized hail and heavy rain.

SASKATCHEWAN — Update: SaskAlert has cancelled its tornado alerts. Earlier, there were alerts for the Maidstone and Turtleford areas, but tornadoes are no longer expected in the region.

This afternoon, SaskAlert said cconditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain in some areas of the province, presently along a swath from Lloydminster to Assiniboia and down to the border.

Environment Canada says a low-pressure system over central Alberta triggered scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon, capable of producing very strong wind gusts and up to nickel-sized hail and heavy rain.

The thunderstorms were expected to move watch eastward.
