One of the final pieces of the land sale between the City of Moose Jaw and Carpere Canada is now in place after a related zoning bylaw was amended.

During its Sept. 23 regular meeting, city council gave three unanimous readings to a zoning amendment bylaw that will affect land in the Southeast Industrial Park. The bylaw rezones land in the southeast area, which will help facilitate the sale of municipal land to Carpere, in agreement with the offer to purchase between both organizations. The offer to purchase was executed on May 28.

There will be 64 additional acres that Carpere will redevelop — to R1 large lot low density residential from UH urban holding — besides the 780 acres it purchased and will develop in the industrial park.

A report from city administration noted the proposed bylaw and notice were sent directly to all property owners within 90 metres of the proposed rezoning. No comments were received opposing the project.

Council also approved another bylaw amendment relating to the Southeast Industrial Park during its Sept. 9 regular meeting. The purpose of that bylaw amendment was to close streets and lanes within the park to facilitate the consolidation and sale of municipal land to Carpere, in agreement with the offer to purchase.

Land specifically cited to be affected includes NW and SW 27-16-26 W2M, NE 28-16-26 W2M, and SW 34-16-26 W2M.

The next regular council meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 15.
