Elks Lodge of Moose Jaw Chili Challenge is set for tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 20.

The Moose Jaw Elks Lodge is holding its chili challenge tomorrow at noon at the Royal Canadian Legion Lounge at 268 High Street West.

Elks of Canada is a national volunteer organization whose structure and ranks are modelled after freemasonry. Their national website states that their goal is to be the best volunteer organization in Canada.

There are no rules regarding the kind of chili that can be entered in the contest. Bonnie Bender, secretary of Moose Jaw Elks Lodge, says they’ve had all kinds of chili, from vegetarian to chicken-based. They have never had an outrageously spicy chili at the contest; most entries are relatively mild.

The funds from the contest will go into the club’s charity account. Bender said their charity account is kept as a resource for a variety of causes.

“We raise funds for those who need assistance in the city. One of the main things we do in the city is to assist in case of a home lost to fire. If there were children in the home, and now they’re outside, we make sure they have warm clothing and food.”

Moose Jaw Elks is also involved with raising money for the deaf or hard of hearing. They have raised money for those needing cochlear implants.

The fee for entry is $10. Those wishing to enter last-minute can email elkslodge7@sasktel.net or call Bonnie at (306) 631-0830.

*Covid restrictions and policies are in place in the Legion.
