Bearchell, 25, carded a two-over-par 74 during the second round of action at The Legends Golf Course in Warman, moving into a four-way tie for 12th place in the tournament.
Thing is, with a bit of better start, he could find himself inside the top 10, if not better.
For the second round in a row, the Hillcrest Golf Club competitor had a pair of early bogeys, carding a five on the opening hole and putting up a four on the par-three third. He was able to get one back the next hole, taking birdie on the 541-yard par-five fifth – a hole he bogeyed in the first round – before capping the opening nine with a bogey-birdie finish for a frontside 37.
Consistency was the name of the game on the back nine, as Bearchell would par the first four holes, take bogey on the par-three 14th, and finish with four more pars for another 37 and his 74 total.
Bearchell’s 149 through two rounds leaves him tied with Saskatoon’s Liam Courtney (75-74), Warman’s Darryl Cuzy (76-73) and Warman’s Jared Clarke (75-74).
Unity’s Justin Scott shot a second-round 72 to land at five-under for the event, two shots up on North Battleford’s Scott Thompson and 10 ahead of Bearchell.
The Mid-Amateur – for players 25-and-older – is taking place in conjunction with the 109th annual Men’s Amateur.
Ty Campbell holds the overall lead on the men’s side of things, shooting his second straight 67 for a 134 total and five-shot lead over Wood.
The Mid-Amateur tournament wraps up Thursday; the Men’s Amateur on Friday.
