Moose Jaw U10 Mustangs win tournament bronze in Regina

Local squad puts together 4-1-2 record through weekend on way to third-place finish
U10 Mustangs tourney bronze
The Moose Jaw U10 Mustangs won bronze at a tournament in Regina during the weekend.

It might be the earliest stages of the season, but the Moose Jaw Under-10 Mustangs have already brought home some hardware.

The local squad put together a 4-1-2 record through a busy weekend of action to claim bronze at the Queen City Minor Box Lacrosse tournament in Regina.

The Mustangs went undefeated through play on Saturday, but settled for a pair of ties in the process with a 1-1 draw with Standing Buffalo and 6-6 non-decision against Prince Albert. Their final two round-robin games of the day saw Moose Jaw roll to a 10-1 win over Estevan and battle to a key 4-3 win over Regina Blue.

That set the stage for the Mustangs’ lone loss of the event in their first game Sunday, a narrow 6-4 defeat at the hands of the eventual tournament champions from Warman.

Moose Jaw finished off their round robin with a 3-2 win over Regina Orange, with their 3-1-2 record good enough for third in their pool.

The Mustangs had a rematch with Standing Buffalo in the third-fourth place game, and the result was far different compared to the round robin as Moose Jaw took a 7-2 win -- rallying from a 2-0 deficit with seven unanswered goals in the process.

Moose Jaw was back in South Sask Lacrosse League action on Monday night and improved to 3-0 in league play with a 7-2 victory over the Swift Current Rampage.

Cruz Seaborg had a hat trick while Ethan Thedrof had a pair of goals for the Mustangs, who led 1-0 after the first and 5-1 through two. Stanley Jameson, Kipton Tremblay and Bristol Dean scored their other markers.

The Mustangs are back in action Wednesday night when they take on the Regina Bobcats Blue in Regina.
