And it’ll have been a long time coming for players in the 35-and-over division after the 2019 championships were rained out and the 2020 event was cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic.
The Moose Jaw Athletics will carry the standard for the tournament hosts, playing in Pool ‘A’ alongside the Saskatoon A’s, Birsay Brewers and Regina Red Dogs. Pool ‘B’ will be made up of the Regina Brewers, Wawota Royals, Lockwood Braves, Saskatoon Diggers and Bethune Bucks.
Action kicks off on Friday at 8 a.m. between Bethune and Regina with games continuing throughout the weekend. The tournament opening ceremonies will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday; the first playoff game goes at 10 a.m. on Sunday between the first and second place teams from Pool ‘A’. The winner of that contest advances to the gold medal game against the first-place team from Pool ‘B’ at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Athletics have three round robin games, facing the Regina Red Dogs at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Birsay at 9:30 p.m. Friday and the Saskatoon A’s at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Regina Brewers are the defending champions from 2018, having defeated the Saskatoon A’s in the gold medal game in Moose Jaw.
The Athletics’ top finish in recent years came in 2017 when they reached the championship final before falling 6-4 to the A’s.
