Moose Jaw teams pick up wins on first day of Softball Sask Women’s Open provincials

Strikers, Heat win games as tournament continues throughout weekend at Eddy Moore Park

A pair of Moose Jaw teams are in the win column to open the Softball Sask Women’s Open provincial championship at Eddy Moore Park.

The Moose Jaw Strikers battled to a 12-7 win over the Moose Jaw Hustlers in the first game of the tournament on Friday afternoon before the Moose Jaw Heat dropped a 5-3 decision to the Regina Rampage and rebounded with a come-from-behind 8-7 win over the Saskatoon Fury.

The Strikers continue their Green Pool round robin on Saturday when they take on the West Central Black Ice at 9 a.m. and Saskatoon Senior Eclipse at 2 p.m., while the Hustlers face the Senior Eclipse at 9:30 a.m. and West Central at 1 p.m.

In White Pool action, the Heat do battle with the Saskatoon Lunar Eclipse at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and wrap up the round robin at 4:30 p.m. against the Redvers Foxy Sox.

The top three teams from each pool advance to the championship round Sunday, with the quarter-finals at 9:30 a.m., semifinals at 12 p.m. and final at 3 p.m.
