Three students from Moose Jaw will be joining the first-ever Saskatchewan Post-Secondary Advisory Council, the Ministry of Advanced Education has announced, part of a group of 21 who will share their perspectives for a one-year term.

The students are Shae Lynn Beaulieu, who attends the University of Saskatchewan, as well as Robyn Marie Gerow and Steven Jose Kattacheril, who attend Saskatchewan Polytechnic Moose Jaw.

"Students are at the core of our post-secondary sector and they will offer important insights for us to consider when developing future policies and programs," said Gordon Wyant, minister of advanced education.

"We are looking forward to hearing from — and learning from — this exceptional group of students."

The members of the Post-Secondary Advisory Council do not represent their institutions and will instead offer their personal perspectives on post-secondary education issues. They were selected from diverse rural and urban communities, institutions, and areas of study.

The province noted the students are also gender inclusive and representative of the diversity of Saskatchewan's student population, including Indigenous voices, visible minorities, and persons with disabilities.

“I look forward to learning about the processes behind developing education policies," remarked Kattacheril. "Furthermore, I'm excited about the opportunity to connect with fellow students from other institutions, delve into the unique challenges faced by students in Saskatchewan, and work collaboratively to address some of the issues that affect us all.”

Gerow said she "was inspired to join the council to share my post-secondary education experiences. Through the council I am looking forward to learning more about post-secondary education in Saskatchewan and hearing about other students’ experiences.”

Faculty and administrators at Saskatchewan's post-secondary institutions had the opportunity to nominate students for the council, although they were ultimately chosen by the ministry based on background, geographic location, area of study, and leadership experience.

The council will meet for the first time this fall.
