Trustees and staff at Holy Trinity Catholic School Division and Prairie South School Division were excited Wednesday with the announcement of plans by the provincial government to build a new joint use school in Moose Jaw.

Holy Trinity board chair Derek Hassen expressed joy related to the announcement, saying, “This announcement secures the place of Catholic education in Moose Jaw for the 21st Century and could not be more timely for our school division.”

Hassen went on to explain that decaying infrastructure had been a concern for Holy Trinity for several years.

Tim McLeod, board chair at Prairie South agreed.

“Prairie South identified the need for a new school to replace aging facilities on South Hill several years ago, and we are very happy that the Government of Saskatchewan has made a commitment to our students and families today.”

McLeod recognized the power of collaboration between the two school divisions.

“The announcement of a multi-million dollar project in Moose Jaw would not have happened without the commitment of both boards of education”, McLeod said. “This is a great example of our community coming together to support something that will have many benefits for the City of Moose Jaw.”

The directors of education for both school divisions also expressed enthusiasm in the wake of the announcement. Prairie South director Tony Baldwin observed, “The announcement of a new school for Moose Jaw students has been a goal of both boards for some time, and it is great to see the advocacy work of locally elected trustees paying dividends for families in Moose Jaw.”

Holy Trinity director Sean Chase added, “While there is lots of work still to be done, the finished school will be something that will serve the needs of children in Moose Jaw for generations. That’s pretty exciting work.”

Holy Trinity and Prairie South School Divisions are hosting a question and answer session at Riverview Collegiate on Thursday, March 28th at 7 p.m. The provincial budget was presented on March 20th by Finance Minister Donna Harpauer.
