The provincial government has approved $750,000 in funding for a number of road safety projects in several communities across Saskatchewan, including Moose Jaw.

A total of 70 projects will receive approval and funding, which is sourced from the Provincial Traffic Safety Fund and administered through SGI’s Provincial Traffic Safety Fund Grant program.

The funding will be provided to 66 communities through grants ranging from $547 to $72,300. Moose Jaw is slated to receive $14,749 for the Look Out For Each Other project, while other communities will use the funding for things like speed display signs, intersection and crosswalk improvements and speed reduction initiatives.

“Everyone in Saskatchewan benefits from safer roads in our communities,” said Minister Responsible for SGI Don Morgan, in a press release. “The communities who applied know their roads better than anyone, and the provincial government is pleased to assist their efforts to improve traffic safety.”

This is the fourth time the government has provided traffic safety grants, with revenue for the funding collected from photo speed enforcement (PSE) fines.

Since the program began in 2019, it has provided $2.25 million in funding to 197 projects.

Applications to the Provincial Traffic Safety Fund are awarded twice a year, with the next intake for community project applications beginning on Jan. 1 and ending on Mar. 31. Applications for new PSE locations will also be accepted during this time.

More information about the Provincial Traffic Safety Fund is available on the SGI website.
