Moose Jaw one of two regions with smaller labour force

The Swift Current - Moose Jaw labour region was one of two Saskatchewan regions with fewer employed persons this year than a year ago in April.

The Statistics Canada labour force survey showed this region had 50,200 employed persons, a decline of 2,700 year over year. The numbers show people have moved, retired or quit looking for work. 

The Prince Albert Northern region with 93,700 employed people was down by 400 from one year ago.

Unemployment was down in the Swift Current - Moose Jaw labour region by 600 to 3,200.

The unemployment rate for the region was six per cent, falling from 6.6 per cent.

Lowest unemployment rate in the province was the Saskatoon - Biggar region at 4.8 per cent, almost half that of one year ago.

Second lowest was Yorkton - Melville with five per cent, just down a shade.

Regina - Moose Mountain at 5.9 per cent was down from 8.8 and was third lowest.

Next was Swift Current - Moose Jaw at six per cent.

Highest unemployment rate of the five regions was Prince Albert Northern at 6.6 per cent, down from 6.8.

The Saskatchewan unemployment rate of 5.6 per cent was down from 7.8 one year ago.

Over 25,000 jobs have been added in the province during the past year.
