The Moose Jaw Mustangs will be aiming for South Sask Lacrosse League gold on home soil this weekend.

If everything goes according to plan for the Moose Jaw Mustangs this weekend, there will be plenty of South Sask Lacrosse League gold medals coming their way.

And that’s most certainly a possibility, given how things went for local teams throughout the regular season.

The first Mustangs team to hit the floor will be the Under-15 crew, who head into the post-season with a 9-1-2 record. That was good enough for second place behind the unbeaten 10-0-2 Swift Current Rampage -- and yes, both their ties came against the Mustangs.

The U15 Mustangs play the Carlyle Cobras (0-12-0) in their opener, with that contest going at 5:15 p.m. at the Kinsmen Arena.

The U13 Mustangs head into playoffs as one of the definitive favourites, having gone undefeated in the regular season with an 11-0-1 record. As a result, they’ll receive a bye through the first round of the double-knockout tournament and face the winner of the QCMBL Crossfire (5-5-2) and Swift Current Rampage 1 (5-6-1) at 6:45 p.m. at the Red Knight Arena.

The U17 Mustangs also finished in first place, putting together a 9-1-0 record in the process, and join their younger brethren in receiving a first-round bye. They’ll face the winner of the Weyburn Thrashers (5-4-1) and Swift Current Rampage (3-7-0) in their first game Saturday at 3:15 p.m. at the Red Knight Arena.

In the U11 division, the Mustangs 1 and 2 finished with almost identical records and both open their tournaments on Saturday.

The Mustangs 2 put together a 5-4-2 mark in the regular season and take on the Weyburn Thrashers 1 (5-5-0) at 11:30 a.m. at the Red Knight Arena. The Mustangs 1 play their first game immediately after against the Weyburn Thrashers 2 (4-7-0) and are on the floor at 12:30 p.m. at the Red Knight.

The tournament continues throughout the weekend with the gold medal games on Sunday afternoon.
