MOOSE JAW — The City of Moose Jaw asked residents on May 29 to immediately begin voluntary water conservation after being notified of a short-term supply issue at the Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant.
The Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant (BPWTP) advised the city on May 29 of a “short term reduction in the supply of water to its customers… due to an issue with the plant.” The issue is expected to be resolved by the end of the weekend.
In response, the city is encouraging all residents to reduce water usage while the production of treated water remains limited. Officials say providing clean, safe drinking water continues to be the top priority during the disruption.
Residents are asked to help conserve water by:
-
Turning off taps during grooming activities
-
Showering instead of bathing
-
Running dishwashers and washing machines only when full
-
Refraining from watering lawns or landscaping
-
Avoiding the filling of hot tubs, pools and ponds
-
Delaying vehicle washing until the request is lifted
The city will also take action by not filling the Phyllis Dewar Outdoor Pool or any paddling pools, turning off spray parks, and suspending street cleaning and non-essential vehicle washing.
“We thank you for your co-operation and will provide updates as soon as they become available,” the city said in a statement.
