Moose Jaw Ice pitcher Taryn Friesen and her teammates will be in action during the Softball Sask 15U AA provincial championships this weekend.

The Moose Jaw U15 AA Ice will have the opportunity to do something that hasn’t been accomplished by a local team in recent history.

Win a Softball Saskatchewan provincial championship on home soil.

The Ice will be one of 17 teams from throughout the province taking part in the U15 AA championship beginning Friday morning at Optimist Park, with the top three teams from the event advancing to Canadians in Brandon during the Aug, 9 weekend.

Moose Jaw enters the event with gold medal aspirations, too, after putting together a 27-12-3 record through the season that includes a 15-1-0 mark and first place overall in the Regina Minor Softball U15 AA league.

The Ice will play out of the Green Pool and will play four round robin games to start the event. They open at 9 a.m. on Friday against the Regina Royals Rush before taking on the Northeast Spirits at 3 p.m. Moose Jaw is back on the field at 8:30 a.m. Saturday against the Saskatoon Raiders and finish the round robin at 2:30 p.m. when they face the Twin City Angels.

The top two teams from each of the four round robin pools advance to the quarter-finals at 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Sunday, followed by the semifinals at 1 p.m. and medal games at 3:30 p.m.

The top three teams from the event advance to nationals.
