Moose Jaw Ice hosting ‘A’ girls fastball tournament this weekend

Top girls fastball teams from throughout province in action at Optimist Park and Caribou Heights

Some of the top girls fastball teams in Saskatchewan will be in Canada’s Most Notorious City this weekend for the annual Moose Jaw and District Girls Fastball ‘A’ tournament at Optimist Park and Caribou Heights.

The Moose Jaw U13 Ice -- fresh off a ‘B’ side win at a high-level tournament in Minot over the weekend -- open their event at 6 p.m. against the Lumsden Cubs before facing the White Butte Storm at 9 a.m. and the Meadow Lake Sox at 5 p.m. on Saturday. 

All U13 Ice games are at Optimist Park Diamond 3.

The game against the Sox will be the second meeting of the season between the South and North provincial champions from the 2021 season, with the two clubs having tied 8-8 at a tournament earlier this month.

The Melfort Spirit, Regina Fighting Saints, Regina Lazers and Regina Royals make up Pool 2.

The semifinals are set for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and final at 4 p.m. Sunday at Diamond 3.

The Moose Jaw U15 Ice play their first game at 6 p.m. Friday against the Lumsden Cubs before taking on the Regina Fighting Saints at 2:30 p.m., Saturday with both those contests at Optimist Diamond 2. Moose Jaw closes out their round robin against the Regina Royals Reign at 6 p.m. at Caribou Heights Diamond 2.

The Melfort Spirit, Regina Royals Rage, Regina Lazers and Southeast Sun Devils comprise Pool 2.

The U15 semifinals are 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, followed by the final at 4:30 p.m. All playoff games are at Optimist Diamond 2.

The Moose Jaw U17 Ice will see Optimist Diamond 1 as their home for the weekend and open play at 6 p.m. Friday against the Regina Saints. They’re back in action at 8 a.m. Saturday against the Prince Albert Aces before wrapping up the preliminary round at 8 p.m. against the Tisdale Riverdogs.

The Calgary Adrenaline Black, Lumsden Cubs, Melfort Spirit and South East Super Novas are in Pool 2

The semifinals are at 2 p.m. at Optimist Diamond 1 and Caribou Heights Diamond 2, followed by the final at 4 p.m. at Optimist Diamond 1.
